You need to focus on what you want rather than what you want to leave behind. Setting a negative goal focuses you in the wrong direction. A positive goal focuses your thoughts and attention on what you actually want and makes it much more likely to happen.
Negative language tells you what can't be done. Negative words reinforce limiting patterns of behaviour. Positive alternatives reinforce empowering thought processes and raise your expectations.
Words are incredibly powerful. You need to watch what you say and how you say things. Beware of saying negative words and phrases without any thought to their potential impact. The way you express yourself determines whether your message is received negatively or positively.
The language you use determines your view of what's happening. You can change your perspective by changing your language. Positive language is crucial to your success. When you find yourself speaking negatively, try changing the negatives into positives by rephrasing your statements.
Words like can't, won't, things never work out for me, that's scary... confine you because they limit your expectations.
- Can't, demonstrates a lack of self-belief, it's defeatist and limits you.
- Won't, demonstrates a lack of will and determination, it suggests retreat.
- Things never work out for me, suggests surrender or self-pity.
- That's scary, demonstrates fear of the unknown.
Fear has the power to keep you from stepping out of our comfort zone and trying new things. You need to recognise where it's operating in our life, face up to the fear and decide to go ahead anyway. One of the things that coaching helps you to do, is overcome limiting beliefs.
You need to become aware of when you're using limiting words and deliberately rephrase your statements, turning them into believable positives. When you use positive alternatives, you enlist your subconscious to work for you and reinforce empowering thought processes that open up your options and make things seem possible.
When you write your goals down, make sure you use positive language. Writing goals down creates a set of instructions for your subconscious to carry out. The more positive the instructions you give it, the more positive results you'll get.
Goal setting is a powerful technique. Goals help you to clarify where you want to be. They become your route and constantly move you towards your destination.
Setting goals helps you to change your life by determining new priorities. A positive goal helps you to develop a sense of purpose, it helps you to focus and influences your actions. Well formulated goals help you to organise yourself and make decisions that will enable you to realise your dreams.
