Are you in control of your life and business, or are you overwhelmed with all the stuff that keeps piling up? It doesn't need to be like that, you can bring order into your life and get on top of stuff. You can get organised.
People often ask how I manage to do everything with a husband and 5 children and clients and producing products and building websites and running SEO courses and... you get the idea. I do a lot, I have many plates to spin and lots of distractions along the way.
Free software to help you organise your busy life
Well, if I'm totally honest, I do get distracted and go off track sometimes. But I've learned to recognise the signs and reign myself in early. I don't let distractions stop my momentum.
There are lots of different ways to organsie your time. You can create lists and use a planner or you can use mind mapping software to help you to organise everything,
- business
- personal life
- family
- chores
I've recently discovered mind mapping software. If you leave the Freemind software open on your desktop, it is a constant reminder of your goals for the day and week ahead.
As you complete things you just move them from the priority list to your finished list inside the map. When you can see what you've been able to get done it spurs you on to do even more.
When I feel like I've lost my way during the day, I get up from the computer and give myself a break. That can be as simple as a a few stretches, a walk around the garden, or some physical activity around the house. If I've completed a big chunk of work I give myself the reward of having a swim and using the spa.
Because I get engrossed in writing, I sometimes lose track of the time and have been known to miss a phone call or be late picking my children up from school. I now use the calender in Microsoft Outlook to remind me of appointments.
You can use it to help you focus on one task for an hour, it's a simple way of giving yourself dedicated time to focus on just one thing you need to get done and then stop and give yourself a reward.
For example, I am currently working on my new eBook How To Hear God, so this afternoon, I set a reminder in Outlook for an hour. I gave myself a solid hour to work on my book and after an hour I left my computer and went to play a game with my family. It's a way of keeping life balanced.
Setting yourself an hour's work is much easier to swallow than telling yourself that you must finish the eBook. By doing things in bite sized chunks you feel that you've achieved a goal and you're further on the road to completing the whole project.
If you haven't downloaded Freemind yet, here's the link. It's free software and it will help you to get your life and projects more organized
